This week's highlights include software for adding nifty 3D effects to your iPhone photos and the arrival of the latest version of Tumblr on Google Play.

Cloud storage space has become something of a necessity in this day and age, and Microsoft's SkyDrive has become a viable option for iOS users once more following the news that Apple has removed its block on the service.

The two tech giants were at odds over royalties concerning in-app purchases, but that is behind us now, leaving iPhone and iPad owners to reap the benefits of version 3.0 of the software.

Along with the standard 7GB of free storage (with more available for a fee), the latest version of SkyDrive adds support for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini, allowing users to download full resolution photos to their devices.

There's no shortage of digital imaging apps available for iOS devices, but Flambe Studios' PopAGraph is more than just another pale imitation of Instagram.

While this free application does include photo filters, the emphasis is more on 3D effects for creating the illusion that your photograph is popping out of the screen.

It's a novel way of adding some visual artistry to otherwise mundane snaps, complete with social networking integration for sharing your work on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The days of taking camera film to your local Max Spielmann for development are behind us, so new hassle-free ways of printing your photographs in the digital age are always welcome.

Social Print Studio's native iOS app offers a quick and easy means of achieving this directly from your device. Simply select the images from your camera roll and high-quality printouts will arrive on your doorstep in no time at all.

The app's developers have already garnered a solid reputation providing physical copies of Instagram images, so your pictures are in good hands.

Android

There are plenty of platforms available for those who like to dabble in blogging and sharing, and Tumblr is the preferred option for many, thanks to its clean interface and social features.

Tumblr released its new Android app earlier this week, introducing an overhauled interface and a 'post anything' function for instantly sharing photos, quotes, chats, links and more.

Other new features include the option to save drafts, customise tweets and queue up posts. Multiple accounts can be managed within the application, as was the case with the previous Tumblr app for Android.

With an official version of Microsoft Office yet to be released for Android devices, alternative means of editing your Word, Excel and Powerpoint files are highly sort after on Google Play.

Quickoffice Pro might be one of the pricier productivity apps to be found on the Android storefront, but it's also one of the best unofficial Office programmes you're likely to discover on a mobile device.

Google recently made the app available free as part of its Apps and Business package, a premium service for managing email, calendars and documents, and brought iPhone optimisation to the existing iOS edition.

An update to your device's storefront may not sound like the most interesting addition to the apps world, but Google has really pushed the boat out with the latest version of Google Play, providing a more visual experience with a streamlined checkout system.

The new Android store bears a similar design to the Google Now personal assistant, with larger images set in cards against a lighter background, and more effective user recommendations.

Google has begun distributing the new Google Play app over the air to tablets and smartphones running Android 2.2 and above, and it's well worth the download
