While we've recently seen the release of the Sony Xperia Tablet Z and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra phablet, a true Xperia Z successor hasn't yet been announced. Thankfully, the mobile blogosphere has been hard at work looking for evidence for such a phone, and this week hit paydirt. Xperia Blog has had a look at a system dump for a phone known by the codename Honami, and it definitely looks like an Xperia Z successor.
First, let's have a look at what we suspect are the specifications. According to the dump, we're looking at a Snapdragon 800 device - which has been shown to have rather incredible performance compared to the current Snapdragon 600 and Exynos 5 Octa processors.
On top of that, we've got some insane camera specifications - not quite Nokia 808 level, but still impressive. We're reportedly looking at a 20 megapixel camera sensor - quite a leap from the current crop of 13 megapixel units. The camera is also capable of recording 4K video, which would be a first for a smartphone as far as I'm aware.

Elsewhere, there's a fair amount of new software features revealed in the system dump. We've got a new launcher and quite a few core Sony apps updated (as you'd expect on a new flagship phone).
The camera is perhaps the most interesting, as it includes a number of new shooting modes and effects. That app's now been freed from the confines of the dump, and can be made to run on other recent Sony Xperia smartphones and tablets.
There's also a visual search app, which is handy when you can't remember what that giant Parisian metal tower is called.
Overall, fairly impressive on both fronts. What do you make of the phone - will it be enough to trump the Galaxy S4 or even the mammoth case of the Xperia Z Ultra? Let us know in the comments below. Thanks for reading and have a good day.
Excellent mobile with some good specifications. Sony is doing some great job in concentrating and providing good premium mobiles instead of focusing only on mid-range mobiles earlier.
