Tips on Optimizing Your Website for Mobile Users

By Unknown   Posted at  11:04 PM   Tricks 5 comments

Since the number of people accessing internet vie their mobile devices is rapidly increasing, and is expected to continue to do so for some time to come, by not having a mobile optimized website you are turning away a huge number of potential visitors. This is to say that for the large majority of websites out there, there is really no good reason not to take this step and make their site available to the people on the go. For your convenience, we have compiled a list of tips that should help you provide your visitors with a smooth browsing experience.

Differentiate Between the Types of Optimization
Your mobile optimized website can come in one of three types:
  • Site with the same URL and same HTML that rely on CSS to recognize the device that is used to access it and respond with the appropriate version – responsive website
  • Site with the same URL, but differing HTML for different devices
  • Site with different URL for the two versions of the site, with the URL of the mobile version being prefixed with m.
From an SEO standpoint (and basically from most of the other possible standpoints as well) the first type is preferred, and should probably be your first choice.

Keep it Simple

You have to be aware of the mentality of the people using their mobile devices to access your site. While on the go, they are probably coming to your site in order to get some quick info, like the location of your business, your phone number, or something similar. If the visitor is not able to immediately see what they came for, they could easily become frustrated. That’s why your pages should only contain the relevant information, and present it a convenient manner. If possible, the visitor shouldn’t have to scroll to see the info they are searching for.

Refrain From Putting Too Much Pressure on the Hardware

Mobile devices are (still) not as powerful as most PCs, and they simply don’t support some features that PCs do, which is why you should make your site as ‘light’ as possible. That’s to say that you shouldn’t use too many images or videos and that you should refrain from using Java or Flash, which are not supported on all devices. Naturally, this will also benefit the visitors because of the lower bandwidth that they probably have to use while on the go.

Give People the Option of Visiting Your Full Site

Even though most mobile users want to just quickly check something on your website, there may be instances when they are interested in finding out more about you and browsing your full site. You should make it easy for them do so, both for their sake and yours.

Refrain from Using Pop-up Windows

As irritating as they are on PC, pop-ups area at least twice as nasty on mobile devices, where navigations is sketchy even in the ideal circumstances. Do your users and yourself a favor and don’t make them leave your site in frustration.

How to Be a More Productive Blogger

By Unknown   Posted at  6:09 AM   Tricks 2 comments

At heart you're a writer. So, why do you find it so difficult to sit down and get things done? You don't need David Allen hovering over your shoulder. You just need a few hacks to help you stay organized. Being productive shouldn't be this hard. Good news: it's not. You just need to learn how to focus.

Stop Multitasking

There is no greater myth in the world of business than multitasking. Most entrepreneurs and bloggers suffer from a terrible habit - they try to do multiple things at once. You've probably been there. You have your chat app open, Gmail is fired up, you've got soothing music in the background, your favorite cup of tea gathering condensation on your desk.

Meanwhile, there's a growing stack of paperwork on your desk. The phone rings. It's your spouse, girlfriend, whatever. Just another distraction, but you can handle it, right? Wrong. Most people worry about not getting anything done during the workday. They read about the latest time-management system, and they try to implement it.

They fail. There's a good reason for that. There's no such thing as multitasking. You're either giving a project or task the full attention it deserves or you're not. That's it. Close the chat window. Log off of all of your other social networking services. Close Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, and whatever else you've got opened. Set your phone to "do not disturb" or airplane mode. Better yet, shut it completely off.

Even the time for research is over. You shouldn't be surfing the web for statistics, graphs, and citations. You should have done that already. Focus on one thing: writing.

Get A Timer

Set your timer for 90 minutes. If you don't have a timer, get one. This is your 90 minutes to write. That's all you do. When you use a timer, and shut off all outside distractions, you have nothing else to do. You can focus on being productive and, ultimately, turn out an epic blog post.

Write An Outline

Don't just rush in and start writing. You need an outline. An outline doesn't need to be super-complicated. It just needs to delineate the subject matter and what you'll be talking about. Most outlines will be comprised of an introduction, several subheads, and a closing paragraph.

Sometimes, you'll just have an introduction and many bullet-points or subheads. The important thing is to make sure you get some kind of skeleton down on your word processor before you start. Then, all you have to do is fill in the blanks.

For example, your outline might look something like this:

Intro
Subhead - main point 1
Subhead - main point 2
Subhead - main point 3
Closing
It's simple, but it's effective. Your writing will flow, be super-organized, and you won't lose your readers, which is important.

Take Breaks

If 90 minutes is good for focused writing, more must be better, right? Wrong. It's important to take regular breaks. Why? Because your brain gets tired. If you sit there and write endlessly for 8 hours straight, you'll find your writing falls off, becomes less focused, and less interesting. You'll suddenly develop "writer's block." Not good. Fifteen to twenty minute breaks are adequate. Sit outside, listen to some music - just get away from your computer. You'll be surprised at how much you can accomplish by following these simple rules.

Effective Steps for creating a Convincing Brochure

By Unknown   Posted at  4:42 AM   Tricks No comments

Effective Steps for creating a Convincing Brochure
Brochures are inseparable items for marketing. These printed materials being used for brand building and generation of business need to be convincing. Appealing images, informative contents and impressive layout are essentials of an effective brochure design. These printed publicity materials are made with definite objective in mind and are not just expressions of creativity.

In fact, designing of a brochure involves use of technology and human creativity in equal measure. The ultimate product is the result of a summation of several activities in order. It is a methodical process of one activity following another and requires professional expertise at each step.

Step 1 – Creation of your printed publicity material begins with a definite purpose. It is essential to identify this purpose at the outset. Purposes could range from brand building, promotion of an event, increasing sales to market penetration. Before setting to design a pamphlet, it is important to make this identification. Once your purpose becomes well defined, it is easier to visualize the design and layout of your publicity material. This identification would also help in determining the type of advertising material required such as: flyer, brochure, pamphlet or catalogue. Each one of these serves a distinctive purpose and needs to be understood well.

In the initial step, it is also essential to identify your target audience. It could be young adults, housewives, established professionals or retirees. The demand and preferences for each of these consumer classes differ significantly. Likewise, way of approaching them should vary.

Step 2 – Once your purpose gets identified, brochure design becomes easier. Publicity material for promotion of a car model would be greatly different from that of a pizza. This differentiation is crucial for any advertiser. After this classification is done, it is easier to decide on your format of publicity.

A flyer is meant for general distribution and should reach an extensive target audience. Invitation for a stock clearance sale is an ideal occasion for distribution of flyers. These could be put in newspapers to reach every home in a locality or hand distributed. A pamphlet is similar to flyer except for its distribution mode and appearance. Flyers are usually monochrome and printed on inexpensive paper. In flyers, information is primary and there is little or no scope of inserting images. In fact, flyers are the least expensive means of printed publicity. Pamphlets like flyers are of single sheet usually printed on both sides. These are coloured and distributed to a more restrictive audience. They are often stacked in shops and retail counters. Pamphlets are typically used for promoting one or two items being sold by a fast food counter or a publication sold from a bookstore.

A brochure is a more elaborate publicity material as compared to flyers or pamphlets. You could plan two-fold, tri-fold, fanfold or Z-fold brochure, once again depending on your necessity. This category of point of sales material is most popular among advertisers and marketers. A brochure is a combination of images, highlighting features and contact details. These should be attractive in first glance, and carry enough information to make a reader interested in a product or service that you sell. These are also sent out as mailers. A catalogue is a detailed description of commodities or services you want to sell. These are selectively distributed usually to bulk purchasers.

Step 3 – The third step involves creation of matter for your point of sales material. Printed matter of a flyer would be different from those of a brochure, and those of brochures largely different from catalogues. Once the format of publicity is fixed, creation of matter becomes easier. For flyers, you need to put in limited content; for brochures, content and images are needed; for catalogues, detailed information and several illustrations are necessary.

Selection of appropriate images and creation of persuasive content are pre-requisites of an effective publicity material. Combination of picture and content should be immaculate such that the entire catalogue looks convincing to a reader. Experts are engaged for creation of these since they form the actual substance of your advertising material.

Step 4 – Layout and designing is a crucial step in creating a pamphlet. Your printed publicity material must have a clean and crisp appearance. Type fonts must be neat and legible, while pictures need to be absolutely clear.

Brochure design is thus a well planned activity and requires sufficient time. Professional designers should be appointed for making outstanding printed point of sales materials.

By Unknown   Posted at  4:34 AM   Tricks No comments

Ask any photo editing services provider which software he uses the most and you will get only one answer “Adobe Photoshop”. Photoshop offers endless tools for designers so that they can draw a new image, edit an old photograph or do anything with graphics. The possibilities are endless and the only thing that can restrict you is your own imagination.

Photoshop brushes are a boon for designers and photo editing professionals. These brushes help them hide a flaw in a photograph or add new effects to increase the visual appeal of any graphics. There are several Photoshop brushes available in the market and you can use them to create wallpapers, illustrations and creative designs and edit photos.

Let’s take a look at the top 12 Photoshop brushes every designer must have in his kitty.

  1. Watercolor splatters: Watercolor effects look great on photos and this one can do the job perfectly. With the help of this brush, you can add watercolor effects to any image and make it look like a hand made painting.
  2. Bird: Want to add a few birds to the sky and give your custom wallpaper a unique look? It can help you do that effortlessly.
  3. Light beams: If interior rendering is your main goal, it is the perfect choice. It will add spotlighting style effect to any image and since the brush is high resolution, the overall appearance of the edited photo will be more glamorous.
  4. Cloud: There is nothing better than this when it comes to creating a clouded sky. Suppose, you are creating a wallpaper to showcase a rainy day. If you try to draw the clouds one by one manually, it will take a long time and maintaining proportion can be very challenging. However, with the help of cloud Photoshop brush, a cloudy sky can be drawn within minutes.
  5. Grass: While working with open green landscape, this one can be very useful. For example, if a married couple contacts your photo editing services company to add life to their honeymoon album; you can add grass to their outdoor photos where the couple is holding each other’s hand to create an illusion of a vast, open green valley. The newlyweds will certainly appreciate your aesthetic sense after seeing the edited photos.
  6. Arrow: While drawing site plans and graphics for road directions, this type of brush is really useful. However, don’t overuse it.
  7. Flame: Want to add some flame effects to the pictures? Then, you must download and install this in your machine. Flame effects can be useful for a number of occasions, such as to show that a food item is really spicy or for adding burn effect to any image.
  8. Water: It is a must-have for every photo editor. With the help of water brushes, you can add several useful effects like rain, bubble, tears, waterfalls, waves and much more. It helps you add small details to the photos and increase their aesthetic appeal. For example, you can add sparkling tears to a bride’s eye when she is hugging her parents just before her marriage. The tears will help you highlight mixed emotions of joy and sadness profoundly.
  9. QuadGrunge: It contains 10 different types of abstract brushes, offering grunge effects. In what type of photos can it help you? If a client asks you to add an abstract background to some of his images because the current background does not look good, you can use this set of brushes to omit the boring background and add an artistic feel to the photos.
  10. Crack: Sometimes, photo editors need to create an old and haunted atmosphere for images and this one can serve the purpose brilliantly. If you want to create a splintered wall of a haunted house, download this brush now.

Apple iPhone Back to Back
1)    Use other domain names without manually typing them, especially useful for people outside of the United States.
Holding down the .com button will bring up other standard domain TLDs
2)    If you require special characters such as e and é è ë ê, just press and hold the main character on which it is based. In a similar fashion to the domain TLDs, additional characters will be available.
3)    Press and hold the 123 button and then without lifting your finger, slide your finger over to the comma and then release. This is a way to insert a comma immidiately
4)    Scroll back to the top of the screen by tapping on the status bar at the top of the screen.
5)    When typing an address in Safari, you don’t need to type the “www.” part or the “.com” part.
For example, just typing junglebooks will automatically take you to http://www.junglebooks.com/
6)    When the iPhone is sluggish or applications are crashing reset it by holding down both the Home button and the sleep/wake button for about 10 seconds.
7)    You can undo typing by shaking your iPhone. If you want your text back, simply shake again.
8)    The best fastest way to delete a single e-mail or podcast is to swipe your finger from left to right across the e-mail. That will cause a red Delete button to appear for your confirmation to delete the selected email.

Chrome’s Password revealing is a child’s play

By Unknown   Posted at  4:36 AM   Tricks No comments
It seems quite strange that password management strategy of Chrome is quite poor. If you know the steps (which is rather easy to follow), you can very easily get any password that is stored by Google Chrome’s browser.
Google Chrome
All you need to do is to open your Chrome browser and go to settings. Scroll at the bottom of the page and click “Show Advance Settings”. Now go to passwords and forms section and click “Manage Saved Passwords”. A screen will open that will list down all your passwords behind asterisk characters. The other way round to reach this screen directly is to type the following address in the address bar of chrome:
chrome://settings/passwords
Chrome Show Password
When you take your mouse near the password field, you will notice a show button appearing. Click on the button and your password is displayed. No master password, no security and neither a prompt of any kind.
It is rather recommended to the users either not to give their laptop or computer to anyone else or donot store your passwords in Chrome. That is in fact the best way to protect yourself as of now.
Chrome security Tech Lead, Justin Schuh says that once someone has got access to your operating system, they can very well get access to all other things using various underhand means.
Such loopholes have already created wave in the market and we are shortly expecting an update from Google that will hide these passwords.

Learn How to Share Your Android Mobile Internet Data Connection

By Unknown   Posted at  10:59 PM   Tricks 2 comments
You can convert your mobile in to a Wi-Fi hotspot and share your internet connection with your friends or with your own laptop or desktop. You can use the following three ways to share the data connection:
 USB tethering or hotspot active
 Bluetooth tethering active
 Portable Wi-Fi hotspot active

Mobile n Tablets
USB tethering or Bluetooth tethering will enable you to share the data connection to only once device at a time, however, you can also share your data connection with up to 10 devices at once, by turning it into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
While your device is sharing its data connection, a Status icon appears at the top of the screen and a corresponding message appears in the notification list:
The tethering & portable hotspot settings described below allow you to share your data connection. To view these settings:
  1. From a Home screen or All Apps screen, touch the Settings icon.
  2. Under Wireless & Networks, touch More > Tethering & portable hotspot.

Share your phone’s data connection via USB

Note: USB tethering is not supported on computers running Mac OS.
If your computer is running Windows 7 or a recent distribution of some flavors of Linux (such as Ubuntu), you can follow these instructions without any special preparation.
If you’re running a version of Windows that precedes Windows 7, or some other operating system, you may need to prepare your computer to establish a network connection via USB.
  1. Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable.
A USB icon appears at the top of the screen, and the notification Connected as a media device or Connected as a camera appears briefly at the top of the screen. For the purposes of tethering, the type of connection doesn’t matter.
  1. Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
  2. Check USB tethering.
Your computer is now sharing your device’s data connection.
  1. To stop sharing your data connection, uncheck USB tethering or disconnect the USB cable.

Share your phone’s data connection via Bluetooth

If your computer can obtain an Internet connection via Bluetooth, you can configure your phone to share it’s mobile data connection with your computer.
  1. Pair your phone with your computer.
  2. Configure your computer to obtain its network connection via Bluetooth.
For more information, see your computer’s documentation.
  1. Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
  2. Check Bluetooth tethering.
Your computer is now sharing your phone’s data connection.
  1. To stop sharing your data connection, uncheck Bluetooth tethering.

Share your phone’s data connection as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot

  1. Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
  2. Check Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
After a moment, the phone starts broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name (SSID), so you can connect to it with up to 8 computers or other devices.
To stop sharing your data connection, uncheck Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

Rename or secure your portable hotspot

You can change the name of your phone’s Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and secure its Wi-Fi network when it’s acting as a portable hotspot.
  1. Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
  2. Make sure Portable Wi-Fi hotspot is checked.
  3. Touch Configure Wi-Fi hotspot.
The Configure Wi-Fi hotspot dialog opens.
  1. Set your name and security options as follows:
Change the Network SSID (name) that other computers see when scanning for Wi-Fi networks.
Choose a security option. Choosing WPA2 PSK adds a password field to the Configure Wi-Fi hotspot dialog. If you enter a password, you will need to re-enter that password when you connect to the hotspot with a computer or other device. To remove security from your Wi-Fi network, choose Open.
  1. Touch Save.
